Tallink & SIlja Line is the leading provider of high-quality mini-cruise and pas- senger transport services in the northern Baltic Sea region. As a result of their recent investment and fleet renewal program, they currently deploy some of the most advanced cruise ferries, including the Silja Galaxy.
This vessel was recently rerouted and had its maintenance setup changed, which prompted Silja Lines to contact Chris-Marine.

More independent engine maintenance
In connection with the rerouting of the Silja Galaxy cruise ferry, the vessel also received a partially new machine crew, which was to assure a more independent maintenance setup. Along this line of strategy, the crew now seek to perform as much onboard service by themselves as possible, while keeping knowledge in- house, which reduces maintenance costs significantly.
These changes have been facilitated by a Chris Marine maintenance package, consisting of several high quality maintenance products and customized to fit the needs of the onboard service crew. According to the Chief Engineer, Anders Öst the implementation of the products has been a success:
“It is very important for us to keep the knowledge onboard as well as keep the service costs down. The Chris Marine and IOP Marine tools are facilitating this pro- cess, and we now avoid having to send heavy engine parts ashore.”
Cost-savings
In addition to the costs saving and efficiency benefits that the internalization pro- cess of the Silja Galaxy has conveyed, the company now also has the possibility to outsource jobs to external service companies to operate on the vessels own machines, if their own crew is busy elsewhere.
